Assignment Overview

A prominent industrial client is currently conducting a preliminary study (April–June) with the goal of defining the architecture for a scalable, long-term data platform. This platform will support the collection, processing, and utilization of manufacturing data to drive insights, innovation, and informed decision-making across the organization.

To strengthen and accelerate this initiative, they are looking for an experienced Senior Data Architect with a proven track record in designing and implementing advanced data platforms—ideally within industrial or manufacturing environments.

Role and Scope

In this role, you will serve as a strategic advisor and technical lead, collaborating closely with the internal architecture team, which includes specialists in OT, Infrastructure, Integration, Data Modeling, and Software Development. You will contribute to architectural direction, evaluate solution trade-offs, and promote approaches that allow for adaptability and scalability.

Responsibilities Include:

• Designing a comprehensive architectural framework for a future-ready data platform that spans the entire lifecycle—from data generation to consumption.

• Offering expert guidance on engineering areas such as data pipelines, analytics, ML/AI, compute strategies (CPU/GPU), and secure orchestration.

• Structuring a data management framework, including governance, metadata, policies, lineage, and integration across departments.

• Recommending appropriate data modeling methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault) and aligning them with business needs.

• Advising on stream vs. batch processing and suggesting relevant technologies such as Apache Spark, object storage, time-series databases, or IIoT platforms.

• Identifying critical roles (e.g., data engineers, analysts, scientists) required to maintain and evolve the platform.

• Evaluating infrastructure options—on-premises, cloud, or hybrid—and assessing total cost, operational impact, and scalability.

• Supporting data collection and enrichment from legacy industrial equipment, including handling protocol conversions and contextualization.

Ideal Experience and Skills:

• Extensive hands-on experience developing hybrid data platforms (on-prem and cloud) within industrial or manufacturing settings.

• Familiarity with IIoT, lakehouse architectures, and end-to-end data engineering workflows.

• Proficiency with tools such as HPE Ezmeral, Microsoft IoT & Fabric, HiveMQ, or similar solutions.

• Strong grasp of data governance practices, metadata handling, and lineage tracking.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business stakeholders.

• A collaborative and curious mindset, with a problem-solving approach and willingness to challenge assumptions.

Additional Information:

• This is a strategic yet hands-on position aimed at delivering a technical architecture that aligns with both operational and organizational maturity levels.

• While most work can be performed remotely, occasional on-site presence will be required to align with team workflows and ensure smooth collaboration.
